Description
George Weston Devenish was born on 25th July 1893, at Hillfield in Mitcham, England.
In July 1913 he was commissioned into into the Royal Field Artillery and, upon the outbreak of WW1 in August 1914, he was one of the first to be sent to France, where he served until wounded in action in October 1914.
He spent some months recuperating from his injuries, before returning to France in June 1915.
In April 1916 he answered the call for artillery officers to transfer to the RFC, there to serve as observers. He spent the next four months flying as an observer in France before returning to England for training as a pilot.
After posting to 35 Squadron, he flew to France in February 1917, serving with the squadron until shot down and killed on 6th June that year.
This book, based on his diary and letters home, was originally published by his family in 1917.
