I’m looking for additional information on the above.
Hendon has a casualty record card for 8.8.1915, for an incident in France when he was wounded, but has no unit details, and TSTB does not have a corresponding entry.
Born September 1884, and educated at Uppingham School from May 1899 to July 1901. During this time his next-of-kin was listed as being his mother, who was then resident at Manningham near Bradford.
Ambler was commissioned into the 14th Hussars, and was a serving officer when he enrolled in the Temple School, at Hendon. He had been promoted to Lieutenant on 29 September, 1909. He received his Royal Aero Club Certificate, No 550, on 10 July 1913.
Ambler ended the War with the acting rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the RAF.

Lt MJ Ambler injured, Lt JH Scandrett injuredPostings ledger has him posted to EF on 12.6.15 on graduation (previously 1RAS and 2RAS)
Nominal roll on 16.6.15 has him with 5 Sq28/02/2017 15:35:00 #2023081777656750AndrewParticipantI should add that this aircraft log book is in the National Archives.
Entry on 8.8.15 has ‘damaged beyond repair on landing’
On 9.8.15 ‘dismantled and handed to 1AP’

This was a Special Reserve Battalion, and so Ambler would not need to pass the entrance exam for Sandhurst. He exchanged, as Second Lieutenant, in to the 14th Hussars on 15 January, 1907, and was promoted Lieutenant on 29 September, 1909.
The 14th Hussars were in India when war broke out in August, 1914, and did not go to Mesopotamia until November, 1915. Meanwhile Lieutenant Ambler was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps on 7 June, 1915.

Next stop, 14th Hussars history to see if he went back to them, or got a staff appointment as he is in the RAF in 1918.
