I‘m trying to track down the spot for Gliki airfield on Imbros.
There are a few photos taken at Gliki aerodrome in Cross & Cockade, that might offer a clue. From the maps, the modern village of Gliki (now Bademli) is built on rising ground, a grade of 17% if my maths (Googling) is correct (100 metre rise over 580 or so metres).
Have any forum members seen a map locating this airfield?
Thanks.

I have among my details on Imbros airfieds the note that Gliki was close to the village of Panagia. Bill Pollard and a friend (CCI Vol 38/2) took a donkey ride to this location so perhaps it was he who noted the possibility of a site for another airfield.
I take it the photos you mention are those illustrating the Fowler article in CCI Vol 44/1?
I am assuming that you are the same b3rn as over on the GWF? If you are, good luck with your researching on both Imbros and Lemnos. I for one will be interested in the results.
Peter.

Yes to the Fowler article (44/1). In that piece, Paschalis Palavouzis says Gliki airfield was ‘roughly where the modern aerodrome currently exists’. This makes sense – perhaps on the ground the landscape in the background will match up. Palavouzis doesn’t mention a source for the location.
Incidentally, in that article, there is an aerial photograph labeled ‘Repair base’ which is identified as being Mudros. Could be a repair base elsewhere. The photo is captioned ‘Repair base Mudros’ in the Fowler album (my assumption, based on its caption in two publications) but doesn’t seem to fit.

First of all I believe that the photo is orientated looking roughly south – the water on the right being Mudros bay. Therefore just out of shot at bottom left (north-east) should be the airship shed, with Marsh airfield about a mile or so over to the left (east).
If anyone can confirm, Paschalis is probably the man.

In the meantime my partner has just returned from Lemnos and she photographed some areas we thought were the locations for the repair base and Marsh aerodrome. Won’t get to those photos for a little while but they’ll help. One background was immediately obvious, it was a photo from Pollard. So hopefully we’re in the right areas.

Here is a broad overview of locations on the island.
