RAF Upper Heyford has a Soden Road supposedly named after Mongoose Soden who was Station Commander there during WW2 while 16 OTU operated from there.
Anyone any idea when Soden was at Heyford ? I believe he was at Biggin Hill in 1941.
It might seem strange that Soden has a road named after him when Collishaw (station commander in 1935) and Carmichael (station commander 1930-2) don’t. However, there is no particular logic to the choice of names (which extends to naming the HASs in 1986 – with Luke, Lufbrey & Rickenbacker) with Bader getting two mentions on what was a bomber station since 1927 for all but 5 years (when Tac Recce squadrons were there) !
