I keep coming across references to Upper Heyford being used by the RFC as early as 1916, but it doesn’t seem to have opened until 1918. It doesn’t seem to have been used for Air Defence sorties, so was it an Emergency Landing Ground or is this just another case of a typo and a lot of copying without checking facts ?
