Hi Chris, sorry for the late reply. The inverted V marking near the tail was the identification marking of 56 squadron, from about June 1918 – so it definitely isn’t Bishop’s aircraft. Other than that, I wouldn’t take it too literally. I have the Osprey book on 56 squadron: none of the colour plates show coloured noses; there is a colour plate of an SE5a with blue wheels and another with the C marking, but not both. If this was late 1918 I doubt that there would be a silver Nieuport in the dogfight, and although some Abatross DVs were still in use, most Jastas had Fokker D.VIIs by then. And I wouldn’t have thought it would be very sensible to try to change your Lewis drum in the middle of a dogfight!
